Recognising the importance of environmental concerns, IPD has developed the Environment Code to help organisations deliver high quality environmental performance information about their occupied real estate.
Launched in February 2008, the Code sets a new global standard for measuring the environmental performance of buildings. Since then the Code has gone from strength to strength, receiving over 6,000 downloads across 75 countries. To further support its global application, a French version was launched in Paris during the summer (receiving a further 1,000 downloads), with a German version launched recently in Frankfurt.
Through the use of common terminology, the Code enables property executives to compare the environmental performance of buildings anywhere in the world. IPD is currently looking for new sponsors for the Environment Code
Rapid changes in both regulation and corporate attitudes to environmental concerns mean that a revised edition of the Code is now necessary and due for publication at an Environmental Briefing on 15 September. We are consulting with clients that have adopted the framework and discussing with representatives across the property industry to ensure the content remains in step with the market.
The anticipated key updates to the Code are as follows:
- The flexibility to adapt to international Green accreditation (LEED, BREEAM, Greenstar)
- Simple reporting for CRC, EPC & DEC requirements
- Adaptations to acknowledge increased investor focus
The new edition will also include more expert analysis from our sponsors to increase the value of the document as an industry guide, as well as case studies based on clients’ experiences to illustrate how both landlords and tenants can achieve better environmental performance.
